Adieu Jumbo, Dada!

Two legends of our times chose to end their illustrious cricketing careers this month, Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly.

Anil Kumble, older of the two and the most hardworking chap the Indian cricketing field has ever produced, bid adieu in a dramatic way on November 2nd. His passion for the game was awe inspiring, and a motivation for the whole of a generation. He would be remembered always for his Commitment, Grit, Passion, never-give-up kind of attitude. Personally he was a soft and gentle person, but on field, a “Jumbo”, a terror! I share a special bond with this fellow, yes; I went to the same college as Anil Kumble, though much later in times. That way, I will be very much proud of him, my senior in college!

His performances for the country….just tremendous! He is arguably the best bowler India has every produced. He has won more test matches than any other bowler in our times. When I started watching cricket, he had started his career. And went on inspiring the nation even to today… Today, he has ended his career as one of the games’ legends, the only one who shared the stage with the legendary likes of Shane Warne and Muralidharan! He spearheaded the Indian bowling attack for over 16 years, invented new ways to bowl, delivered occasional quicker flickers, the googlies, feasting the opposition batsmen for lunch tea and dinner. He was insatiable throughout. The fact that he once ran over all the ten batsmen of Pakistan stands as a testimony to that statement.

Sourav Ganguly, aggression personified; a brilliant off-side player, and a gritty captain, has called his day today. He was a champion, named fondly and rightly by fans as the Prince of Kolkata! He had that royal spine which crafted the Indian team to be a superpower in the sport. His constant encouragement saw the advent of younger players into the team, and his aggression on field saw records being fumbled and created for India on home turf, and foreign land alike. He took the Indian team from a mediocre 7th position on ODI charts to too close to the world cup in 2003. For being the most favourite and most successful Indian captain, he was fondly called “Dada” (Elder Brother) of Indian cricket.

I’d tribute with my “Hats off” to these legends at our most depressive cricketing moment; Depressive because, we wanted them for more time, but as they say… all good things come to an end, and Yes.

To see both going away from International arena at the same time is something cricket lovers of India can not digest easily. Yet, it is our duty to thank them for every single joy they gave us, for every moment they made us proud, for every smile they created on all the faces of this lovely country.

We say Good Bye with our utmost heartfelt contention. Wish you luck and glory in your life after cricket. Thanks for all the glorious moments; those were enough for this lifetime!

Great quotes on these two legends:

"To become another Anil Kumble one will have to work really, really hard," - Sachin Tendulkar
“On the off side, first there is God and then Saurav Ganguly." - Rahul Dravid.

The great IPL

An Auction….. 1….2…..3….. Kolkata goes to Sharukh.

Now… Bangalore…. 1….2…..3….. Mallya gets it!

Mohali….Priety bags it….

Nope…it has nothing to do with the city, but the Cricket team representing the city.

More to be noted is… the local boys are very minimal in the team that is filled with ‘outsiders’…

Many more things to note … The players are auctioned as well… And each team gets to call their top bid for their players… One gets 6 Crores… One gets 5 Crores (You read it right, Crore Rupees)…and so on.

Ponting complains that he was opted for a lesser money! And Dhoni says he is just about satisfied with his bid amount! What’s happening here is …. Whole world goes crazy in cheering these auctioned ‘local’ lads, and they name it all as CRICKET. J

Cricket that was called a Gentleman’s game, once, has now become a businessman’s paradise to invest. People like Mallya, Ambani, and the league who held a lot of money and doesn’t know where to invest have all found a nice way of spending their fortune, and the foolish people like me, you and them return them in multiples of about what they spend!!

It is an absolute CRAZY item as that sounds. We have an illegible record of iconisation and worshipping the stars in all known means, and this crazy cricket is all adding on to what is already an absolute crack of the game that was.

This barbeques for cricket is named IPL, the Indian Premier League!

All said and done, I am a no saint for not getting hooked to this killer game…. Now since the Royal Challengers are gone in the buckets, I’ve shifted my loyalty to Delhi daredevils, the Sehwag’s team and Mumbai Indians, Sachin’s team.
Log in IPL, Good Bye Cricket!!

Three Indian moments that defined the cource of just concluded T20 World cup are as follows.

Ball of a lifetime for Joginder Sharma and the catch of a lifetime for Sreeshanth!!

Yuvraj Singh lambasting Stuart Brad

Good Bye and Thanks for all the ad campaigns!!

Sachin Tendulkar, who is a parallel God to millions in India, has brilliantly let them down.

Sachin Tendulkar, who has close to 15,000 runs in one day cricket, failed to come up with 150 runs when it was most required.

Sachin Tendulkar, who earns billions of rupees thru advertisements, has brilliantly let billions of people down.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is supposed to bring nightmares to Shane Warne(Best bowler contemporarily), brought an outpitched delivary on to the stumps.

We have been drinking pepsis by litres, wearing adidas shoes, eating britannia bickies, riding TVS motor cycles.....We'll duly follow you in it!! Thanks for all those brilliant campaigns.
And, Good Bye, Sachin!!

A spine-less captain,
spirit-less subordinates,
spice-less sprinters,
cold blooded ‘youngsters’,
care-less ‘seniors’,
and an atrocious old man

are the things that is required to sink a beeming billion dream.

This was proved yesterday. Thanks a ton Mr. Dravid for this brilliant lesson. We've never been so fortunate!!

And Now, please carry home this gift…………..

With due love,

An Indian Cricket Fan (Yet)!!

Indian reply..."TIT FOR TAT" with a difference!!

This is Sreesanth, of India, responding to Andre (the Giant) Nel of South Africa by scoring a six.

Disclaimer :
I try very hard to be away from cricket, not to watch it, not to talk about it and not to discuss about it. But, I admit that I fail very miserably, like this.
So... forget about all those said in many of the previous posts, or may be thats how a fan behaves at glory and at lowly times. :-)

Whatever it is, the moment, displayed above, has brought out loud laughters in all the Indian cricket fans, and also a sort of relief and pride. And I guess you guys agree with me. This picture will be etched for a long time to come in the minds of Indian cricket followers.

Hearty congratulations to our cricket team on their wonderful, historic victory on the South African soil.

Aa yaa India.....!!

I watched the brilliance of Dhoni as a keeper to get Hall run out, cheating him to get the wickets down.
I watched the opposition batsmen struggling to hit the boundaries in the last over.
I was pretty impressed!!

Then I continued to be hooked to the channel, in spite of constant pressures from mother to shift to her favourite serial.
I watched Indian batsmen stumbling…still continued with it…
It was getting late at night…I chose to watch it completely….
I knew that off late they have been playing pathetically, but still had some hope of a turnaround…

Wickets fell like the drops of a monsoon rain..sudden and in a flash.
It seemed as if they were in competition to get back to the pavilion faster….
Dhoni hit a six..and another boundary..I was cheerful..
I was struggling to be awake…Rubbing my eyes....
I knew I had to get up early for my daily exercise…I still chose to watch it..

There again started the competition…One fell..after another…
Tried to keep my eyes open, but couldn’t do it…and so because of my spirit of watching the game dying.

It was past 1AM the next day and I had to call it quits.. And yeah I did; realizing I must be up at 5AM again.

Morning 5AM, my alarm rang, I stopped it and said oh! Not so sooon, and slept back.
When I looked at my watch it was 7:30 already…and time to rush for the work…
Blamed myself for being lazy and headed for the wash.

Now…when I usually get up late…I behave so crazy that I end up spending twice the amount of time for doing same thing than a normal day…and a being of dullness…oh! That’s disgusting…
So one full day wasted!!

When I think of it all….I sacrificed my good sleep….I sacrificed my early morning Jog…I sacrificed my music practice…I sacrificed my whole day’s active being…and so on… One day of mine is sacrificed for the team that didn’t do well..And I'm sure that there are millions who would’ve done the same across the country…Millions of days wasted…!

After all these, there's one un-answered question :
Is our cricket team really worth our sacrifices??
